V3.5.1 - bug or just bad luck?

    Hi

So my hT Warrior went to '4950 to kill Sauron... problem was that I wasn't sober, so when Sauron summoned loads of monsters, I tried to teleport myself with sroll, but srunken fingers slipped, and I casted *destruction* (should have inscribed those, yeah)

Now I have rested some 12 elvis waybread and 9 ?oSatisfy Hunger worth, no Sauron. I have tried let priest, arcpriest, sorceres and other things that summon, summon monsters. No Sauron.

So am I just really unlucky, or is there something wrong? Force Descent is birth option....

Ouch. From what I've heard, he should eventually respawn, but you're basically stuck on that level until he does. Summoners aren't going to work very well because they can't summon monsters that are vastly more powerful than they are, and Sauron outranks everyone except Morgoth, so their odds of getting him are pretty poor. If there was a summoning trap on the level, then you could try repeatedly triggering it, but otherwise I think your best bet is just to wait.

Maybe we should add a special "super duper ultra common" rarity for Sauron and Morgoth (or associate it with the FORCE_DEPTH flag) so that if they're ever not on the level they're automatically the first thing to spawn. This kind of situation isn't exactly common but it sucks when it happens.

Yeah we should do that, or have destruction just do a teleport away + full heal on Sauron/Morgoth.

Op, if you really want to finish the game and don't care about things like score and what not, you can use debug commands to summon sauron onto the level. "ctrl-a n 546" i think should work (you may need to clear prompts for wiz-mode commands.

Can't you just recall back to town and then back into the dungeon?
OP will still get dumped at dlvl99, even with force_descent...right?

Nope. That would allow you to scum level 99 infinitely (albeit while being constantly harrassed by Sauron), which is against the point of forced-descent. Similarly, you can't recall from level 100 until Morgoth dies.

“We're more of the love, blood, and rhetoric school. Well, we can do you blood and love without the rhetoric, and we can do you blood and rhetoric without the love, and we can do you all three concurrent or consecutive. But we can't give you love and rhetoric without the blood. Blood is compulsory. They're all blood, you see.”

Finally, after some 15 or more read ?SatisfyHunger, explore level, kill everything, rest until hungry procedures, Sauron appeared. He did drop only junk. Went town to change gear and then descent to level 100. Morgy was pushover, http://angband.oook.cz/ladder-show.php?id=17627, my fastest and easiest win. I am eager to try official 4.0 with hT Warrior. Btw, no rings of power in this game, but headgear at home was kinda fast to use.

Do you know, the funny thing is, I actually play force-decent more often than not and never realised this. I guess I'm overcautious and always overprepared.
