YAWP - my first win :)

After finishing Sauron I decided to look at Morgoth just to know what to expect.
I try few Manastorms than another one, Phase door, banishment, use staff of healing, use staff of the magi, recharge, etc. And I decided I don't need more preparations - I have everything to fight him.

There were 2 moments which changed my game.
I found 3 first dungeon books in great vault on 2000 depth.
Nexus vortex changed my int with dex so I started to play with double caution.

    This was a fun game!

    -----------------------

In the middle game I thought next I would try a half-trol mage. Because health is so important.
But since I didn't manage to max int even with High-Elf I'm afraid half-troll's Manastorm spell failure will be too high.

Perhaps I will try another flavors of angband - nppangband is my first contender.

    Congratulations on your first win!!

As for the rest, given my (admittedly failed) attempts at a H-T Mage, you may have to give up the idea of manastorm altogether...

Half-Troll mages are a lot more viable than you'd think. They aren't going to be as good at pure casting as a high-elf, sure (though you should be able to get them very high with appropriate choices in equipment), but their high STR and CON, and innate regeneration (which applies to SP as well as HP!), are fantastic traits for mages. You don't have to use Manastorm to kill Morgoth, y'know. There are other options.

In any case, congrats on the win!

        Conga-rats!

HT mages lack stealth and saves; low int isnt that much of an issue thanks to regen. Things are going to wake up and blind and confuse you, delaying dive till items compensate for bad stealth.

Is there any discussion which can't be improved by a Simpsons reference?
            I don't think there is.
