    Inter-monster rivalries

So Huan supposedly spends his life hunting for his nemesis, Carcharoth. Yet there they just were in the same room, blissfully hanging out and waiting to kill @. It would be interesting to see certain inter-monster rivalries override the hatred for @, and perhaps lead to another interesting strategy, trying to get them to meet to duke it out amongst themselves.

I think it was Fizzix who suggested that, although not overriding their lust to kill @, when Huan and Carcaroth appear together they should have half their hit points. Like they just left off killing each other to take out the @ before returning to their battle.
“We're more of the love, blood, and rhetoric school. Well, we can do you blood and love without the rhetoric, and we can do you blood and rhetoric without the love, and we can do you all three concurrent or consecutive. But we can't give you love and rhetoric without the blood. Blood is compulsory. They're all blood, you see.”

There are a number of variants where monsters will in fact fight each other. It sometimes makes looting vaults and pits much easier than it should be. If the game gives you experience for monster kills it can get really silly levelling up a bunch of times without even witnessing the battle.

The most dramatic case of this I've encountered is in Kamband, where you can join a religion and suddenly have a bunch of 'favored' monsters switch sides; as they kill each other you can gain many levels.
