    improvement idea for Inspect command

Beside the absolute powers / modifiers the items grant there could be an additional section which Shows which modifiers apply if you wear the item and would remove another worn item for that.

if you were a lantern of true sight and Inspect the phial of galadriel it could look like this:

    Phial of Galadriel
    radius 3 light, bla bla

If you wear this item you will gain +1 light, you will loose pBlind and SeeInvis.

(But only if the lantern was the only item giving this benefits of course)
    Blondes are more fun!

Interesting idea. Hmm. You would need to be able to display two sets of changes for rings, which would get a bit busier. That's not an insurmountable problem though.

The biggest issue I can see is that I don't think it winds up being as useful as it may initially look. Generally by the time equipment gets confusing you are looking at all combinations of what you are wearing, what you have on hand, what is at home, and what you might buy or pick up. Tracking a single change doesn't get you from one local maxima to the overall better configuration which may require swapping half your inventory.

A tool mainly for the beginners I guess?

Item comparison is very very useful, just that (I assume) angband actual UI wouldn't make it easy to do it in the main window but if the game ever gets proper UI a floater comparing the items would be *GREAT* that's mostly nice for items with some sort of damage property since sometimems you have to equip them back and forth to make the choice

An alternate approach might be to tell the player how their stats have changed when they equip an item (or when they use-identify the item). For example:

"You are now wearing a Helm of True Sight (gained pBlind, SeeInvis, lost +1 lite)." (because you removed your Leather Cap of Light)

"Your weapon glows. You are wielding a Rapier of Westernesse (gained +1 DEX, +2 CON/STR, slay orc/troll/giant, FreeAct, SeeInvis)"

I like this approach mostly because it'd help the player notice when they lose something really critical, like Timo's accidental lost of Free Action that he brings up from time to time.

Another idea might be to allow players to select resistances they think are critical & have them show up in red on the side bar if missing.
So there'd be: no free action written on your side bar if you switched gear.
