Wands or Staves of Exotic Resistance?

Would there be any interest in a charge-based item that would give temporary resistance to an exotic danger? Like a Stave of Resist Nether or a Wand of Resist Chaos?

Only if it actually gave a reasonable damage resistance as well. Right now the higher resists have a variable damage reduction which makes it useless. The resists are important for the side effects, which for Chaos is particularly severe, and for Nether is pretty much ignorable.

Plus, there are already too many wand types. Various elements, various shapes, dragon breaths and whatnot. For most characters its a squelch orgy for filtering tele other and stone to mud. I rarely use any others with fighter types.

There are too many *bad* wand types. I'm trying to think of a way to make wands actually useful. As it is, I pretty much squelch everything except for the two you just mentioned.

I love the Rod of Delving in FAAngband. 1 turn to cut through granite, and it never needs recharging.

Well, we can do you blood and love without the rhetoric, and we can do you blood and rhetoric without the love, and we can do you all three concurrent or consecutive. But we can't give you love and rhetoric without the blood. Blood is compulsory. They're all blood, you see.”

Pretty much all of the attack wands get a decent amount of use by my mages, though they eventually stop keeping up and get ditched. Hell, even for non-mage classes, I'll carry them around until they're emptied before throwing them away. Recharging is too onerous for non-mages though, which makes attack wands significantly less attractive.

Early on, Wands of Slow/Confuse Monster can make a difficult fight into a cakewalk, though it make take several attempts before the effect sticks. All of my classes will try to use those wands for at least a little while.

The Oangband and friends artifact rods and wands are fun. I use attack wands sometimes, but it's pretty easy to just have the mana on hand to kill stuff anyway.
