    Question about Lanterns

I was playing an older version of Angband and just upgraded to the newest 3.09b. In the old version, I would frequently see lanterns for sale, but i only see them in the dungeon in this version. Is this a bug, intended feature, or just bad luck on my part?

It's an intended feature. Note that torches both weigh less and with sufficient fuel produce a larger radius of light than previously.

I believe this is an attempt to not make torches obsolete right from the beginning. Since lanterns cannot be bought in stores (yes, it's not a bug) you're pretty much forced to use them until you can find a lantern, etc in the dungeon.

Torch light, as it stands, has been modified such that at <1500 turns it gives radius 1 light, and at >1500 turns it gives radius 2 light
      It breathes on you.
      You die.

Sometimes you can find a lantern in the Black Market.
