Just wondering, am I the only one who does this? I find myself restarting several times in order to get a town placement with the stairs close to the Home and ideally also close to the Black Market. As the game progresses, I hate having to run around the town when all I usually do is swap stuff at home or check the Black Market. Scumming to get a good layout rather than good treasure! Wish there was a way do just set the town up well without restarting sometimes more than a dozen times.

Restarting to optimize town
“We're more of the love, blood, and rhetoric school. Well, we can do you blood and love without the rhetoric, and we can do you blood and rhetoric without the love, and we can do you all three concurrent or consecutive. But we can't give you love and rhetoric without the blood. Blood is compulsory. They're all blood, you see.”

We could always make the layout of the town important by introducing a minigame where the town comes under attack and you have to barricade/blockade it strategically and set up defenses. My Chiptune music, made in Famitracker: http://soundcloud.com/patashuComment

Barring early game weapon store is the most useless one. It never has anything better than what you find in dungeon.Comment

In competitions, where turn count is at a premium, I'd think people would restart to optimize the town to avoid unnecessary turns.“We're more of the love, blood, and rhetoric school. We have had a few competitions recently that let you roll-your-own characters, but I don't think any of those relied on turncount.Glaurung, Father of the Dragons says, 'You cannot avoid the ballyhack.'Comment
