If I could compile Angband on my PC I'd have a go at this. (See Development posts for the technical issues I was having - may try again some day but right now parenthood is winning). What do you think to the idea? Especially interested in opinions from relatively new players.
Training Mode - an option that defaults to off (or possibly on, given it aims to help people who are new, and therefore unfamiliar with the options).
Some Maia spirit acts like your guardian angel and tries to impress upon you dangers etc. This takes the form very similar to level feelings.
Upon entering a level, the spirit tries to ascertain the most likely reason you will die - using a bunch of rules/heuristics.
You would get a message like:
etc.
The idea being new players get a chance to know what to be cautious of when they need to be cautious of it, without making them stronger/enemies weaker, without giving away Monster Memory stuff for free, or relying on them researching and memorizing all the dangers relevant to their dlvl and resists etc)

You would get a message like:
- "You feel particularly vulnerable from a lack of poison resistance." (Drolem on Level + no rPois)
- "You feel particularly vulnerable to out of depth monsters."
- "You feel particularly vulnerable to enemies that can summon."
- "You feel particularly vulnerable to being knocked out from stunning." (Mystic + no pStun)
- "You feel particularly vulnerable to enemies with breath attacks" (Kavlax, etc)
- "You feel particularly vulnerable from lack of hitpoints" (Enemy that can one-shot at full HP)
- "You feel particularly vulnerable from multiple unique enemies"
- "You feel particularly vulnerable from paralysis"
etc.
