    Lost a Unique - "Azog"

Does this happen? Do uniques vanish from the game for any reason?

I have been hovering around level 23 (where Azog is said to spawn) for weeks looking for him. I've gone several floors above and below, waiting, looking for him, but he never appears.

In the meantime I've killed ALL the other uniques around that level due to out-of-level appearances... so my list of uniques shows all dead but that one. I have no idea what to do from now- I'd really like to get all the uniques!

He might spawn deeper in vaults or maybe some other unique summons him.

Just continue onwards. Eventually you'll find Qlzqqlzuup, who can cast Summon Uniques; you can use him to make certain that all the other named monsters are dead. Sauron and Morgoth can also cast that spell...maybe Maeglin can too? I forget.

Oh, I assume you've verified (via monster memory and/or ~ menu) that you haven't accidentally killed Azog? It's possible!

Ooh, nice! I haven't seen "summon uniques" before. It's very good to know I don't have to sit here on level 23 anymore.

And yeah I double-check often that I didn't just kill him offscreen. He's still kickin'.

The other thing to realize is that monsters don't stop getting generated just because you passed their native depth. You still see the occasional Small Kobold, and in fact I'd bet that there's just about as many at your current depth as there are at their native depth, simply because there's far more monsters at your depth, and thus far more chances to generate a Small Kobold.

It's not uncommon for me to kill Wormtongue at 3000' or the like. Don't worry about missing a unique.

OTOH some of the weaker items do stop being generated, so if you are hunting for full artifact set, then you might have to back up for some of them to appear.

Azog has a rarity of 5, which makes him hard to be generated.

Ah! I finally got him! He appeared on 26 in stead of 23 this time. Thanks for the help, everyone!

You could just let some of the early uniques live. That way when somebody casts summon uniques later on they might bring in uniques that are hilariously underpowered for your present level instead of anything dangerous.

Also, the deeper you kill them, the better their drops tend to be.

Ahh okay- I'd heard something about that, skipping early uniques, in another thread.

I guess I'll have to find out later.... I just died (again!! haha)

Welcome to the stage, Hamfast XIII !
