Any way to fend off problematic Nexus Quylthulgs

So I came across a pretty big vault a dl45. Not exactly a huge one, and from checking there weren't any unique monsters at all. Just a large vault with lots of monsters and tons of traps. Problem is that on the second half of the vault there were 4 Nexus Quylthulgs that were in tricky areas. Most of the vault was un-diggable, and the Nexus Nexus Quylthulgs were in an area that was out of my line of sight. Normally I have a rod of acid balls that would fry them into oblivion, but with the walls I can't get into a position where I can hit them offscreen. Any ideas on how to deal with this?

You can keep trying; eventually they may decide to teleport themselves away instead of teleporting you. Failing that, they move at normal speed and only have ~65 HP, so one good shot from a bow or decent attack spell will put one down if you can get into LOS of it.

Yeah, after a few persistent tries they teleported away from the vault. Some of them failed when they tried to teleport my character away, which gave me enough time to hit them with the rod of acid ball for the kill.

Making your way through a vault, teleporting out all the murderous inhabitants and then getting teleported out yourself by a measly pink Q, quite likely near some of the former vault inhabitants who are now awake and fast and out for blood, is among the most annoying experiences out there. The phat loot is in reach, if only you can make it past that Q. And if you are lucky enough to make it back to the vault...the Q is still there, and most likely will keep teleporting @ the next 5 times.

If I clear a vault and happen to have a banishment scroll, Qs are first priority for banishing, s, Z and v are secondary candidates.

Other pretty annoying thing: Q teleports you out of GV, you dash back towards GV, failing to notice you are out of trap detection zone or some critter creates trap. RNG usually makes sure it is a trap door

If you have rNexus, do Teleport Other spells cast against you have a bigger chance of failing? At some point in my game, the monsters' TO never seems to work. Is that from rNexus or just higher clvl?

Just a better saving throw, that's all. Nexus only protects you against nexus-elemental attacks; Nexus Quylthulgs would probably be better-named "Phase Quylthulgs".

I'm not quite sure, but doesn't rnexus protect against hostile teleport level?

It just teleports me to somewhere else in the map, which is more of an annoyance than anything.

Nexus attacks, such as the breath of a nexus hound, has a random chance to do many things, including teleport level. Just like the spell or scroll, you end up on a new level 1 up or down from where you were. If you were tracking a treasure, it's gone, hence the concern around nexus attacks.

Nexus Q's don't actually attack with nexus. They just use spells.

This is teleport_player_level() in spells1.c. It denies:

                      * going up when in town or with forced descent
                      * going down on quest levels or when at the bottom of the dungeon

Assuming at least one option is available, then, you are automatically teleported with no save or resist.

Geheheheh, something fun just happened. Found Qlzqqlzuup on a vault. So he summons a greater balrog, I dispatch it without too much trouble, and I move in. Two things.

Unlike his Quylthulg brethren, it seems he can't teleport away. Two is that he doesn't attack. And an extra three, the vault is designed, that it has narrow spaces, so he has no room to summon anything at all. Feels quite cathartic to wail on him after all the headaches the other Quylthulg does with their teleporting away (or teleporting me away).

So what causes my resistance to teleport attacks to go up as the game goes on? Is it my clvl or some resist or a stat?

Level, class, race, and WIS. You get a saving throw of (race modifier) + (class modifier * level) + (WIS modifier).

rnexus and saving throw. Normal teleportation is unresistable, you don't even get saving throw.
