What clvl to wear One Ring?

Here's a situation I've never been in before. I have deep diving and found the One Ring at clvl 38... What level do you recommend a priest puts that on? I'm worried about wearing it now because it will bring everything to me, and it drains xp.

I know it's a good problem to have, this debate. Only found this ring a couple times ever; Clairvoyance helps a lot.

It is! I guess the xp drain doesn't matter because of my priest spells, but it's the "entire level coming straight to me" thing.

Ironically, in the books it had the opposite effect... (invisibility)

Aggravate is such a deal-breaker in so many situations - and that's good - it creates hard choices for the player.

But still, sometimes I think giving gear qualities like "aggravate orc" or "aggravate undead" would allow for less deal-breaking but still interesting choices for the player.

I would wear it when ready for the last 2 fights, not before. Gathering consumables and better gear is just so much easier with a bit of stealth, theres no need to be very powerfull. Be sneaky, picking your fights carefully, and only fight tough uniques when the opportunity is good.

out of curiosity, did you mod the game in any way? I thought the one ring can only be found below 5000' after the two big fights?
Although some serious deep diving with 4800' feet at level 38, very nice.

This is one of those situations in which I'd say to backup your savefile and put the ring on right now. In fact, share that savefile around. Finding the One Ring this early is rare! It's incredibly powerful, more than enough to counteract the effects of aggravation. The real question is if you can cope with the experience drain.

Regarding generation chance, while it's true that the One doesn't enter native depth until dlvl 100, that doesn't outright prevent its generation earlier. It just makes things more difficult, as the item has to pass 1 out-of-depth check per level. Vaults can have tiles that generate items as if they were 40 levels deeper in the dungeon, so theoretically you could find the One at level 60 without having to pass any out-of-depth checks at all. Of course, even with that, it's incredibly rare.

I have already played past it, unfortunately, so I can't post the character file from when I found it. I decided to keep it and not wear it until Morgoth; I feel like if the RNG gave me this ring at clvl 38, then the odds are super stacked against me to win with it.

I found it in a greater vault at dlvl 98, which is where I find pretty much everything as soon as I get reliable TO and detection.

One aspect that I hadn't considered before is that knowing I have the ring for the end-game, I can mostly ignore many resists, ESP, and immunities when trying to fill out my kit. Not feeling obligated to wear any of the other rings of power is quite liberating!

Dlvl 1, clvl 1.

Seriously. You might get some combination later that beats having it but early it is more powerful than any ill-effect it has. Immunity to all elements and all that. Just don't try to activate it.

Loss of stealth might hurt, but priests are not very stealthy anyway.

I have found it twice in 20+ years of playing. Deep. I think base item for it is dlvl 100 so earlier than that it is OoD item (unless found of vault).

Not really. I tried with debug-mode. The speed and stat-boost makes you so much more powerful that you gain XP way faster you lose it.
