Nah, I don't think you need to change the current implementation of stores. The current setup works just fine - you'd just want to use UI logic so 'g' etc does one thing with piles of objects and a different thing on stores. And you'd want to implement them as separate commands at the game level, too.

[3.5.0] observations, questions
Dear all,
1. The 3.5.0 is a great version to play. Many thanks to everyone who contributed.
2. The lantern of truesight has a "cannot be harmed by fire" description if i inspect it. Does this mean it can be destroyed by acid for example? Other items have an "Can be destroyed by: xxx" description. I think this could be used for all sort of items (lights too). If something cannot be destroyed there is no description, else it says which element can harm the object.
3. Sometimes i identify weapons/items on floor. It would be cool if the (I)nspect command would additional allow to inspect an item on the floor tile you are Standing (besides the equiped / inventory items).
4. The changelog list for 3.5.0 says "Elves get a Speed Bonus". Is that true? I could not notice it until now. Which race class(es) in particular and how big is the Bonus? Can anyone enlighten me please? Thanks!
Cheers,
TibariusBlondes are more fun!Comment

I think that refers ego "elvenkind". Cloaks, boots etc. except that only elvenkind boots have it it seems.Comment

The speedbonus to elven boots was much needed to make them competitive to pure speed boots. As it is, though, I still end up using speed boots over elven boots most of the time.
Typically, elven boots offer a stealth bonus at the cost of a slight reduction in speed. I think they cap out at 8 speed/X stealth compared to 10 speed for basic boots, and clearing a GV or two at levels 90+ can yield multiple pairs of each, so you actually can expect to have the choice of either boot type with high end numbers.
By this time, however, stealth loses much of its appeal as it has become possible to fight things should they wake up. Moreover, 2 extra speed can make a difference in the endgame kit, allowing for example to swap out an amulet of Trickery for something without speed without dropping below the magic +30 mark. So rather than enjoying +4 stealth or so I keep using my +10 boots for the greater gear flexibility.Comment

Did ego weapons of gondolin and HA get beefed up for 3.5? I have never seen so many +20 to +25 bonuses in my life, they are comparable to some of the better artifacts, not that i'm complaining mind you, I like the flexibility, but they are dropping like hot cakes in some of the bigger vaults, they are everywhere.Comment

It's less bad egos, not more good egos, except that less bad is actually more good. Hope that that made sense. I need coffee....Comment

Code:a) a Mace of Disruption of Extra Attacks (5d8) (+17,+20) <+2> {4200' last item} Found lying on the floor at 4200 feet (level 84). +2 attack speed. Slays undead. Combat info: 7.0 blows/round. Average damage/round: 1020.6 vs. undead, and 623.7 vs. others.

I thought my Executioners sword HA +21+23 was a lucky find, and I have Doomcaller as a swap, but that mace of disruption is hard to beat, you can't hardly get a better weapon than that..very lucky find indeed, so far all my maces of disruption has been trash.Comment

Thinking about it, many of my characters that win with melee do so with high-powered ego Maces of Disruption or Scythes of Slicing (oddly, not Blades of Chaos for some reason...). A Holy Avenger Mace of Disruption (or a MoD of Extra Attacks as Time had) can put out a gigantic amount of damage. Randarts often can't compete.Comment

I haven't yet tried a no-artifact game myself, but I suspect the big stumbling block is going to be a lack of stat boosts. Most egos give only minor stat bonuses, and stuff like maxing CON is likely impossible unless you dedicate a ring slot.Comment

No-artifacts is a well-known challenge condition, and should definitely be winnable with both warriors and priests. You might need to scum a bit longer for resists and/or avoid more enemies than usual though. Stuff to look out for include Dwarven armor (+CON and +STR), Multihued DSM/Elvenkind armor (basic resists plus high resists, and specifically getting poison resist from MHDSM), big Speed rings/boots of course, Crowns of the Magi (might get ESP), and Bows of Lothlorien (ditto).

I might go with priest first/ because of the Rblindness, covers one problem, and then the damage survivability can be helped with spells/ you can always heal/ cast OOD
I think Bron does this all the time, i need to sneak and look at his character ladder to look at his builds, lol.Comment
