    Forced Descent's nasty surprise

So, I was playing a forced descent game, mostly clearing levels, but around about dl80 I decided I'd got enough gear and consumables at home to go take on the bosses. I'd just found a stack of ?Deep Descent so I read them one after the other thinking I'd plummet to dl99 and then recall to town to pick up my consumables stored for the big fight. Then I learned to my chagrin that once on dl99 there's no going back until Sauron is dead. All those lovely !Healing, !*Healing*, !Life, !Speed, ?Banishment, ?Mass Banishment, ?Destruction, all sitting uselessly on the shelf at home. Needless to say, the fight didn't last long ---> Tombstone.... Damn!

Well, we can do you blood and love without the rhetoric, and we can do you blood and rhetoric without the love, and we can do you all three concurrent or consecutive. But we can't give you love and rhetoric without the blood. Blood is compulsory. They're all blood, you see.”

Yeah, you do have to plan ahead a bit! Think about it, though -- if it worked the way you expected it to then you'd be able to grind level 99 endlessly by repeatedly teleporting Sauron away, which breaks the point of forced-descent.

    Sorry for your loss though.

The game will warn you before you enter dlevel 99, provided you do it normally. If you enter via teleport level or trap door, well, you may be screwed.

Then you'll have to wait for them to respawn. Or if you have staves of summoning/scrolls of recharging, you can try to summon them, it would work too.

For Sauron, you should be able to kill him without any supplies if your speed is high enough (I've done it with +29 base/+39 hasted).
