I put on the Iron helm of Gorlim. Now what?

Hello everyone. I'm currently playing Angband 3.5, and I put on the Iron Helm of Gorlim which I found in the remains on Nar the dwarf at 1300 feet. It is heavily cursed, with a bonus of +10 to enchantment, so can someone tell me how I can remove it?

Enchantment scrolls can remove curses even if they don't succeed in enchanting the item, so just keep trying Enchant Armor on it.

OK. Thanks for the information (and the quick reply too).

I was always wondering why some of the cursed artifacts are still there, while cursed weapons and armor are removed.
What's the point of having unusable cursed items in the game anymore?
Any imaginable bonus of each of them is easily replaced with one of the many ego items.

Actually, Gorlim is really nice if you don't care about anything but damage output or want to show off your maximum damage. I've had characters intentionally put it on before.

Non-artifact cursed weapons and armor generally had no redeeming values and were really gotcha items, especially with ID by use becoming more prevalent and remove curse going away. Many of the cursed artifacts have positive attributes that may make them worth wielding.

For example, look at the Boots of Wormtongue. With a native dungeon depth of 10, they provide bonuses to intelligence, dexterity, speed, and stealth while also activating for phase door. The only disadvantage is that they are cursed. At that depth, there is no other footwear which is anywhere near as useful.

Well, the boots are quite good actually, but in my book most of the other cursed items are not, mostly because they usually show up too late in the game.

Calris? That's so good I used to save scroll of *Remove Curse* in home just for it.

I admit that sticky curses are quite boring, curses that do something even from from inventory and prevent you from dropping item completely would work better.

My current rogue has found Calris, but he doesn't have much use for it. His MoD is at least as good.

Usually for me it is swap for disenchanter dragons: Balance and Chaos. Those cause nice dragon explosions. I'm big fan of swaps now that I play with no-selling: no need for extra inventory space.

Calris also doubles as wake-up whistle when you have too high stealth to lure opponents to you one at the time.

Waking up things is easy - arrows, bows, shots. ^^
I like rogues and high stealth and therefore don't like aggravation.

I carry a weaponmastery amulet for swap against disenchantment.

If you wake something up with an arrow, it'll probably have at least one opportunity to cast at you. Sometimes you want to wake something up from behind a corner. A yell command that give aggravate for one turn would be fun as an alternative.

Just one problem -- zephyr hounds never sleep.

Anyway, you deserve what you get if you stumble too close to a screen boundary. There's no reason not to play with a gigantic field of view these days.

                              Hounds start off awake.

Don't scrolls of aggravate monster still exist? Thats like a whistle.
