What about a Great Launcher category?

I think the Great Weapons category for squelching is helpful (once all the bugs it generated get worked out). Used to auto-inscribe !* on the three to keep from missing them.

But what about a Great Launchers category for Lothlorein, Harradrim, and Buckland? Or at least the ability to auto-inscribe !* for those?

Well, we can do you blood and love without the rhetoric, and we can do you blood and rhetoric without the love, and we can do you all three concurrent or consecutive. But we can't give you love and rhetoric without the blood. Blood is compulsory. They're all blood, you see.”

It would be difficult to do without rewriting a lot of the squelch code. We don't have the ability to squelch particular egos; only the ability to squelch quality levels. Something for the future, perhaps.

At least Lothlorien and Buckland are Splendid already (at least they should: they give stat bonus). Haradrim isn't that great: it equals HxBow or extra shots, just lighter. Extra shot might count as splendid too, not sure about that.

"Haradrim isn't that great..."??? I carried around a single regular (+0,+0) bolt, arrow, and iron shot, and compared launchers on this somewhat even playing field as I came across them, just to see what were the best launchers.

All other things being equal, and I realize they never are, depending on available ammunition, resistances or abilities, and weight and other considerations -- Just on a launcher-to-launcher basis:
Lothlorien can beat out Belthronding only rarely, if it's x5 and gets really great damage and to-hit bonus.
Sling of Buckland is almost always outdone by Haradrim or Lothlorien, unless those have enemic bonuses.
Haradrim wins out over everything, including Belthronding and Cubragol (unless you don't already have the ability to get to at least 30 speed).

Buckland can have +2 to both shots and might and if that happens it beats haradrim by one shot / round. It's rare though.

Haradrim is quite literally just lighter version of HxBow of extra shots.

Lothlorien can have ESP or pStun or something like that in it, which can make it great, and bows in general beat xbows in hands of ranger. OTOH if you are not a ranger and don't need that extra ability, then even ordinary extra shot longbow can be better, and Belthronding almost always is.

Maybe "great shooter" means "extra shot". Unless you are ranger, that is.

In a just completed game I came across a Sling of Buckland (x4) (+25,+27) <+5,+2> which should be most non-rangers best missile weapon.
Since this was on DL98 with a mage though, I ended up using mana storm instead.
I certainly would have used it if I'd found it earlier though.

With bog-standard iron shots and no other damage bonuses, that weapon would deal 29.5 * 4 * 3 = 354 damage/round. If your shots had +10 to-damage then it'd be 474 damage/round instead, which is better than mana storm.

Yes, but you don't create a mage so that you can throw rocks at people.
