Any way to prevent accidental stair use?

Every so often, I accidentally use the up-stairs when I mean to look at the full map, but my finger misses the "m" key and presses the "<" key. Is there any way to force confirmation for stair use? I tried inscribing the "<" key as "<!*", but it didn't have any affect. Any ideas, besides paying more attention to my fat-fingers

Inscribe something with ^< and you should get a confirmation before going up.

Me too. Is there any reason for this, or could it be removed? It would help my blood pressure!

It's probably capturing break-command which was ctrl-C in old *nixes.

I used that for amulets of CHR. Downstairs though, but otherwise same.
