Potions vs priest spells

I just found out that in the latest version, priest spells for CLW, CSW and CCW have a different effect than the potions. Any reason why?

Also some priest spells don't seem to cure as many status ailments as they should. Mainly Holy Word and Healing.

Because they are not potions. That's the reason really.

Which ailments are you talking about? If you mean blindness and confusion, both prevent casting spells, so that's pretty natural that they don't do those.

Or are you saying that they do less than their description says? That's bug then.

No, they don't cure poison and amnesia. I don't see why Cure Critical, Cure Mortal and Heal clear those, but not Holy Word and Healing, which are supposed to be the best ones.

Doesn't amnesia prevent you casting?
If so, how would you heal it with a spell?
(never played a priest, so I might be wrong)

I'm pretty sure the game doesn't have amnesia anymore.

There is amnesia attack, but it isn't permanent and acts quite a lot differently than it used. Not sure if it exists in 3.5 though.

It still exists. Doubles failure chance for spells and reading scrolls.

Same as stunning: both increase your failure rate, but don't prevent casting spells completely. Healing cures stunning, why not amnesia...

Amnesia makes reading scrolls fail half of the time.
