    Squelch suggestion

It has been a while since I played, as I seem to bring it out every year or two for a bit...

However, has anyone ever implemented a keyboard shortcut to squelch an item you are standing on? It gets annoying having to squelch items in that menu when I find them. Maybe it exists and I have not found it?

It's very easy to write a keymap to do this; I always have one, usually bound to '+' (since I move with the numeric keypad). The keymap just needs to do 'k-a' (or maybe even just 'k-', I forget).

Thanks. I now realized that "k" will do what I wanted. I never used it much before, because I thought it just destroyed an item, not allowing you to also squelch in the process...

In fact, you cannot destroy items with a command in modern Vanilla; you can only ignore them.

Probably k-aa: squelch, floor, first item on floor, and then ignore that item only.

Mm, personally I like getting the confirmation request so I don't accidentally ignore the wrong thing, but if you're confident that the first item's always the one you want to ignore, have at it.

Which means you can unsquelch an item if you need to (I just tried it) very good to know. I will use the squelch feature a lot more now that I know that I can recover an accidentially squelched power dragon scale mail :-)

Quite. This also means that if, say, you max your STR, you can safely ignore Potions of Strength, and then unignore them if your strength happens to get drained and you want to check for a source of restoration. Or, on the off-chance that your Rod of Recall gets stolen, you can unignore Scrolls of Recall. Et cetera. Ignoring really is superior to destruction.

I quite frequently use the [shift-k] unignore command if I get an early-ish superb level feeling and I haven't found anything significant, just to see if there's a squelched powerful priest book lurking on the level somewhere, for instance.
