Can't save/won't save keymaps

I realize this is probably angband 101 but since I've gotten the new version 3.41, I haven't been able to save the key maps. Consequently, everytime I load my game I have to re input my directions. Is this a normal function of the game because I don't remember it before? However I'm fully willing to admit I can't remember crap, and I'd be willing to hear the fix.

Did you append keymaps to a file? It should save it for future play. To create one: = for menu>interact with keymaps>create keymap>select hotkey>input macro>press $>press y to confirm>append keymaps to file>enter to save for later!!

I think I've been playing a bit much lately. I typed that from memory. I like to hotkey every spell and device I use. Makes the game much more fluid.
