    Testers wanted - 'rebalanced monsters'.

    Hi,

I'd like testing and feedback on the 'algorithmically balanced' monsters list I've been working on. This attempts to modify the vanilla monsters for a flatter difficulty curve.

Could you download the revised monster.txt from http://prdownload.berlios.de/unangband/monster.txt and replace your existing monster.txt (make a backup) in lib\edit in your Angband directory?

You'll need to modify the version line (V:3.0.7) to match the line in your monster.txt in order to let this work.

If you want more information, the link to the original thread on rgra is available at http://angband.oook.cz/rgra.php?showpost=96983

    Regards,

have been playing with this for about 3 weeks. It seems to make thing insanly hard. haven't managed to get past 300ft yet.
It was a bit of a shock the first time I went down and change face to face with a disenchanter eye and then had memory moss and Breathers (flys & bats) @ 100ft
It is more intersting to play I just have to try not to play mages as if the're warriors.

Thanks for the feedback. Just goes to show how many monsters 'go to waste' by appearing at a depth when they're no longer a threat.

I wasn't been negative as such, it's a lot more interesting, just bloody hard. I need to develop a better stratagy, i can't just go round bashing things on the head with more sword anymore.

The main problem i'm having other than being to gung-ho is uniques who have followers as thier followers seem much tougher than they would've been before, might be my imagination but they seem to be appears in bigger groups too. By the time I've mopped up the groupies I have to few HP/SP to finish the unique and am to stubborn to run away.

I should have been clearer: this was primarily intended to smooth the difficulty curve between 1500 and 2000 feet, not make the start harder. I could play with the curve a bit more...

Is the start harder than Sangband? As hard as NPPAngband?

Well, I've been running the 3.0.6 Borg using this rebalanced monster.txt for about six weeks now, and it doesn't seem to have any more difficulty than it had before. Fewer than 1 in 3 die before CL20, so the start is not too hard. No winners yet, but two L50s and an L47.

Sadly I've not actually played a real game with it, due to playing variants. I think you're onto a winner with the idea though.
