    Dwarven Warrior in 3.3.0

As I'm just getting back into the Angband system, I've picked up the Vanilla version 3.3.0. As my memory is fuzzy, and quite muddled with the numerous variants I've played in past times, I have one blaring question :

As a Dwarf Warrior, do I gain anything as I level?

To clarify, any resistances, abilities... I know in the Hengband variant, Kobolds were able to use poison darts upon level 9ish. Anything at all like that for a Dwarf Warrior?

I dunno about the dwarf part, but I think warriors get resistance to fear at level 10 or 30 or something like that (sorry, bit rusty haha)

The game should tell you at birth what bonuses you'll get, both for class and race.

    Also, some unsolicited advice:

If I were you, I'd pick up the newest version. 3.4.x is quite a bit harder and more interesting, IMO.

If you just want to wack things with a plentitude of artifacts, sticking with 3.3.x might be your best bet If you're going to do that, get the most up-to-date point-release. There were some good bugfixes in there. (My first winners were on 3.3.x.)

Alrighty, I remember something about Fear..

As for getting the newest versions, I think I'm going to keep going with this, and pick up the newest version when I finish. But thanks for your suggestion.

In any case, I appreciate the response!

OK, so it looks like dwarves resist blindness (didn't know that one) and "detect ore / minerals", and warriors do indeed gain immunity to fear. The racial bonus you should have right off the bat; I can't remember at what level you gain the class bonus. (I think it's 30. Someone who actually knows what they're talking about will probably waltz in here soon.)

As you level up all your skills beside stealth, searching and perception increase.
Yeah, warriors gain immunity to fear at level 30. Dwarfs are also the only race to get a bonus to digging, meaning that you can mine through walls faster.

Okay thanks! I remember that some mobs loved fear bombing me... Looking forward to wrecking their days >

As a warrior this is particularly noteworthy since you're strong enough to burrow through granite walls barehanded even as a starting character.

Also detect treasure veins in 3.4.x at some distance.

Well... I got killed off by some "I" that mass bred, and confused the living daylights from my guy. I had him save scummed so I may end up restoring him, albeit at the loss of a few levels.

Hummerhorns. They're nasty; if you can't kill the original before it wakes up then you may well have to flee that part of the dungeon. Remember to close doors!

With multiple blows from weapon and with fractional blows warrior usually can escape from them just by trying to get to corridor. Good AC and few potions of CCW helps in that: single bite from Hummerhorn does very little damage and with good AC they miss a lot, so it takes time for them to kill warrior, and single potion can heal a lot more than one turn worth of bites. Just don't try to cure your confusion with those potions (not until you are in a corridor), use those potions to heal.

The more blows you have the better in this case: if you have six blows and one blow is enough to kill monster, you just used 1/6 of a turn.

Fleeing is a right decision there though. Out of control Hummerhorn infestation without confusion resistance is near impossible to clear without having some big gun from mage arsenal (banishments, destruction, staff of power).

Indeed.. I learned my lesson. Now I'm being sure to carry extra !CCW and ?PD / ?Teleportation. I also have a =Teleportation just in case I keep getting confused.

Better to carry a Staff of Teleportation than the ring; it's far more reliable, and unlike the scrolls works even if you're blind, confused, hallucinating, stunned, etc. (though your activation success rate will suffer).

Alright, I'll keep it in mind. Currently, I haven't run into one, but I'll be sure to snag any I do. Not diving too deep, but I killed Golfimbul, got an Iron Helm of Telepathy, and found a Whip of Extra Attacks in a Vault on level 12.
