monster trying to attack through wall

so I was cleaning out a small vault with multiple rooms that could only be accessed through digging. My detection spell reveiled Ariel, the Queen of Air with several other weaker monsters and some items in one of the rooms. When I dug into the room later on, all the items and all the monster apart from Ariel were gone. I can see how she could have noticed me through the wall using noise or telepathy or something and she can cast frost and lighting balls that would cause the destruction of the items and weaker monsters.
But there was an indestructible wall between me and her, so would she still try to attack in spite if having no line of sight and no way to get to me?

    From the online spoiler:

She can bash down doors, destroy weaker monsters, and destroy objects.
If it gets in her way she squishes it.

Yeah, basically Ariel was trying to get to you, and in the process walked all over the other monsters and the items lying around. Monsters in this game won't directly attack each other, but certain monsters are capable of literally trampling weaker monsters -- instantly killing them and moving into their space.

Artifacts and unique monsters can't be killed in this way, for what it's worth.

Artifacts no, uniques yes. A monster with KILL_BODY will trample over any other monster that has less experience as per monster.txt, unique or not.

But that doesn't kill the unique - it can be generated again later. I think.

That's true. It's also why you can have some summoner bring a horned reaper which tramples it right before you kill it.

I had thought that uniques were totally immune to being trampled, so thanks for the corrections.
