I noticed this in last official build, and I see the same in RC: regardless of my birth_no_stacking settings, there are no stacks allowed. Everything spreads around. Why?

I think you may have found a bug - I don't remember there being an intentional change to disallow stacks. If that had happened, the option would have been removed.

Grateful if anyone who can reproduce this (with birth_no_stacking off) could reply to this thread, preferably with a savefile attached.

Well, it's off by default, according to options that I can see. And quite long ago already. I guessed that it could be reversed, and tried to set it to "On" - no change. Well, I can give you my save, it's quite empty anyway. Here it is.
