You still have difficulties with proportionalities, e.g. a longsword weighing 35% of a suit of plate mail.

I guess only in movies like Highlander you see people with 25 lbs long swords...

This isn't meant to be snide at all -- just an observation. I always think it's neat on how the fantasy genre works... here we're complaining about weapon weight being unrealistic in a game where you're descending 5000' under the ground, killing thousands of monsters along the way, in an attempt to slay an evil god who makes EARTHQUAKES by smacking the ground with a HAMMER
Glaurung, Father of the Dragons says, 'You cannot avoid the ballyhack.'

Different kinds of unrealistic. One is magic, the other is internal inconsistency - it doesn't make sense for a puny level 1 character to wield a ten-pound broadsword.

Yes, I'd encourage people to read that essay and some others on the same site. It was one of several references in setting the Sil weapon weights, and on re-reading it, it suggests that I might still have made them a little heavy with my Longswords averaging 3 lb and my Greatswords averaging 7 lb. One of their sources claims to have never seen a greatsword weighing more than 6 lb. That said, there are also some issues of historicity where swords in Sil are meant to be roughly dark-ages weaponry in contrast to the late medieval weapons that are the focus of that piece.
