    So, I've unpacked the Angband folder into <username>\Downloads , edited font-win - and it works! Thank you everybody!

    Now I have hashes for walls. Lateron I'm going to try the other workarounds to see whether I can have solid blocks for walls instead.

      Really? To do what?

      I believe that you two are just stuck to old Win95 behavior. Or the programs you try to use are stuck to Win95 behavior.

        I must admit back in 95 I was still playing with an old IBM computer, playing dos games, so I'm perhaps a couple years (more like a decade) behind the current norm.
