    DTrap?

I'm playing Vanilla 3.3.2 and occassionally my Dunadan Ranger will display "DTrap" just to the left of my dungeon level on the main Angband window. Sometimes it is not displayed, sometimes it is yellow, and other times it is red.

I'm guessing if it's not displayed @ thinks there are no traps?

If it's yellow there might be a trap?

And if it's red I'm sure there's a trap around?

I'm asking because, in a dead-end hallway, one square away from the dead-end DTrap is not displayed. In the last square of the dead-end it's yellow. If I move back a square it's not displayed, move into the hall's last square at the dead end it's yellow. Does that mean there's a trap beyond the wall?

DTrap means that you've cast Detect Traps (by some means - rod, spell, scroll or staff). This means that (provided no monsters have been casting create-traps spells..!) if you can't see a trap on the screen, there won't be a trap there.

Green means you're in the interior of the detected area; Yellow means you're on the edge, so if you move one square you may no longer be in a trap detected area.

That's odd. At the time I noticed this I didn't have a rod, spell, scroll or staff of Detect Trap. And I certainly didn't cast it - I had that spell memorized but did not cast it.

Perhaps an un-ID'd scroll or rod/staff/wand.

I'd much prefer detect traps to be a timed effect that detects traps within line of sight. In this way it wouldn't function as detect special rooms and vaults, which is, by far it's most useful feature. Yes, I know, all this has been discussed elsewhere ad nauseam.

Did you read an unid'd scroll without realizing it?
