Some questions on magic, armour and weapons

I had to poke a bit at the spoilers sadly but had a hard time finding some of the information.

    So:

I understand mages have a penalty to magic when wearing gloves/gauntlets. Does this apply to other classes too?

Are there any weapon restrictions/limitations other than clerics getting a hit penalty with edged weapons?

Other than the armour weight limit, are there any other concerns? i.e. as a mage can I wear any armour without penalty, as long as it totals under the weight limit?

    Thanks in advance!

All "arcane" casters (mages, rogues, rangers) take a 1/3rd penalty to SP when wearing gloves that don't give Free Action or a DEX bonus and are not Alchemist's Gloves. "Holy" casters (priests and paladins) have no such penalty.

Depending on your STR, some weapons will be too heavy for you to wield effectively. That's the only other "restriction" I can think of.

Correct. The armor penalty subtracts 1SP from your maximum for each pound over the limit -- so its effects become much less significant as your total SP increases.

Does the game alert you if you are trying to use a weapon that is too heavy, or no?

It does alert you. I forget exactly what the message is, but there is one, and your equipment will show "barely lifting" for your weapon entry, IIRC.

Using the [I]nspect command, or [l]ook if it's in a store's inventory, on a weapon will tell you if it's too heavy for you, among other useful things.

yeah, Inspect is hugely helpfull. The "damage per round" average is really nice. I wish Crawl had that.
