    Dragon Scale mail gear

Did vanilla ever have this, gloves, helm, boots and shield? Or am I remembering a variant. Seems like these things would make sense in game, could give resistance to its element without being an ego item.

Only bodyarmor. There are variants with other gear.

I think they add a lot to the game. No matter what your current equipment is, you'll always be excited to find a Dragon item, because the number and type of resistances it provides are randomized. If you're lucky, a Dragon item might provide exactly the resistance patch you need; if you're extremely lucky, you might find a Dragon item that rivals top artifacts.

Dragon gear serves much the same purpose as randarts --- it makes equipment options more diverse, and the statistical outliers (i.e. the very best ones) provide novelty even to long-time players who've "seen it all." Besides, the flavor is awesome.

Of course they'd need to be very rare, but I don't see why they couldn't be a good addition to V at some point. They're not unbalanced --- they usually cause the player to choose between speed/damage/stats and a resist or two. It can go either way. The thrill is in identifying them to see what resists are covered --- it's like opening Christmas presents.

Steamband has regular items that provide resistances (gas masks - poison, fur cloaks - cold, probably more), though Steam has percentile resistances, so it's a little bit different.
If you can convincingly pretend you're crazy, you probably are.
