Angband. y u no give numerical damage output?

    Well, let's put it this way - in the universe where Angband displayed damage numbers and always had, nobody would be saying it would be made better by removing them.

    But there will inevitably be those who want things the way they are, regardless of whether it's better or worse.

      I prefer not seeing the numbers, for immersion.

      Another reason is reducing information spam. In another game I'm playing I get annoyed from the damage numbers showing, because they are redundant information most of the time. Too much information is distracting and makes it difficult to see what's important. I don't need to know how much damage an orc or kobold does to me every time, because after meeting so many, I already have a good idea about how much damage they do.

      It might be good to add an option to make it possible to turn on or off showing the damage numbers. In that case I might use it sometimes, e.g. to compare different weapons or for boss fights. This option could also be helpful for testing.

        Both styles are valid. It will be an option.

          I'm fine with this - but rather than add another layer of message hackery that has to be unpicked later, do you fancy sorting out #1502 first ;-)
