    elemental spells and giants

Hmmmm..... I'm noticing that elemental spells don't affect giants the way they do trolls or other creatures.
Stone trolls are greatly affected by the spell turn stone to mud, yet stone giants are barely affected, frost giants seem to take normal damage from the spell fire bolt. I have been using fire, frost, versus cratures that are normally greatly suceptible to that elemental type, and it works extreemly well, however giants seem to take normal damage. Am i missing something? Or is this a bug?

not all frost based monsters are vulnerable to fire, not all fire based monsters are vulnerable to frost. This is deliberate.

I could see a reasonable case for making stone giants get hurt from rock remover. Is that really a reasonable way to kill them though?

That is probably the best option to damage them quickly if you are a mid-level caster, as you don't want to melee, or acid-bolt the entire pack if you don't have to. As a warrior you wouldn't be doing it that way, though.

I can wipe out a entire pack of stone trolls, by kiting them down a corridor and eliminating them in about 5 turn stone to mud spells. I threw a dozen at a stone giant however and he was barely damaged. just wondering, if they are different?

Yes. Stone giants don't have the HURT_ROCK flag. IMO this is a bug. Note that even when they have it, they will still be harder to kill than stone trolls, as they have a lot more hp.

I never even thought of using this spell for offence. Cool idea thanks. Do any other creatures have the HURT_ROCK flag?

Playing a mage I use the spell stone to mud on all rock based creatures, earth elementals are another. I use frost bolt against fire based creatures, a la fire vortexs, elementals. I use fire bolts against undead it works very well, zombies and vampires catch on fire, you can eliminate magic mushroom patches with one fire bolt. fire bolts also work well against air elementals. Hydra's are also suspectible to frost bolts.

You can eliminate magic mushroom patches with one anything bolt. They have 1HP apiece.
