Odd game effects

I'm not sure where to put this, so feel free to move it to a more appropriate location, but something odd is happening in my copy of angband 3.3.0. I made a second copy and was playing with various text files in the lib/edit folder, fiddling with different statistics and some of the starting equipment, etc, and now, in both that copy and all other copies of angband 3.3.0 on my hard drive, all my characters start with 0 gold, and the "Pariah" or "Unknown" social status. I didn't intend to affect anything serious. Am I not supposed to play with those files or something? Any help would be useful. Thanks heaps, guys and girls.

This is not a deliberate mechanism. The chances are that you have inadvertently elided a field in a file somewhere (were you editing p_race.txt or p_class.txt?). It's also possible that your different copies of the game are all using the same lib/edit folder, depending on how carefully you kept them separate.

Try unzipping a pristine copy of the game downloaded from rephial.org, onto a drive that doesn't have any copies already (I assume you are using Windows?). If the problem persists, let us know.
