YAWP + a note of thanks

Finally got my first winner last night... Sauron was fairly easy, Morgoth was a good deal tougher but I had plenty of speed, plenty of healing, and plenty of Mass Banishment scrolls, so it wasn't too difficult.

I'd originally started playing Umoria back in 1990 or '91 and then discovered Angband a few years later. I've taken some time off over the past 20 years and many other games have come and gone in that time, but I always returned to Angband. The randomized dungeons combined with the massive variety of unique monsters and items really keeps things interesting. The threat of perma-death lends the game an intensity and sense of risk that few other RPGs can match, and the many changes and enhancements over the years have also helped keep the game fresh.

No other computer game has held my interest for 20+ years. I've beaten a number of other CRPGs in a matter of hours, so it's really kind of mind-boggling that this one took me 20+ years to conquer, and that it held my interest for all that time.

So I wanted to drop a note of thanks to all of the developers who've contributed to the game over the years, as well as to all of the other forum participants who post ideas and advice to this forum and on the old newsgroup before it... I've learned a ton about the game by lurking here and it's always fascinating seeing everyone discuss potential enhancements and changes for the new versions. This is one heck of a development community you've got here, and the quality and longevity of the game is a testament to all of the work and collaboration which you've put into it. Thank you!

Congratulations!! I'm glad I'm not the only one who has taken so long to beat the game.

Congrats on your win - and thanks for making me feel good about winning in a mere ten years!

Congrats nice gear too. Just curious it says you get 1 shot per turn but you're a ranger. Did that get changed?

Only with bows. He's wielding a crossbow.
If beauty is in the eye of the beholder, then why are beholders so freaking ugly?
