    A few noob questions?

Well, I discovered this game just recently, and i'm absolutely hooked. After spending many, many hours dying, i've managed to get a character quite far (well, far by my standards. My previous best was clvl 14 at dlvl 11).

However, I just encountered a a "Superb" level feeling on floor 27, and was rather annoyed to find nothing at all. I've also found a few "Excellent" ratings earlier, with the same result. Am I exploring wrong? I've got a rod of treasure detection, trap detection and stair/door detection, but still can't find anything. Can someone please help me out? I'm sorely in need of some more resistances, and better equipment. Here's my current dump: http://angband.oook.cz/ladder-show.php?id=11739. Any comments are welcome. Thanks everyone!

Looking at your character dump, the superb feeling was probably that potion of *Enlightenment*. They don't usually show up till about level 70, so that's a pretty good find. Drink it the next time you get a good/excellent/superb feeling, and it will map and light up the level, detect all the treasures, boost your INT and WIS and ID any items in your pack. (But don't carry it around for too long, or it might get destroyed by a cold-breathing monster before you get a chance to use it.)

You should swap the red dragon scale mail for one of the other colours in your house, since you're already getting fire resistance from Narthanc; I'd put on the white one, and check the magic shop in town to see if they have any amulets of lightning or acid resistance. If there aren't any in town you should be able to find them in the dungeon fairly commonly. Keep IDing ego armour and shields, and hopefully you should find one of Resistance or Elvenkind that will cover all four base resists.

You've already got Free Action, which is the other important thing to have at this depth. Keep a look out for rings of poison resistance and a source of see invisible too. At the moment, just be careful around monsters that breathe things you don't resist. As a Half-Troll warrior you've got plenty of HP, so you shouldn't be in too much danger until the monsters start getting nastier around level 40 or so.

Dungeon feelings are generated also by monster and dungeon features, not only by items. Sufficiently OoD or multiple OoD monsters can cause Superb feeling even that there are no significant items in the level. Also things like Pits and Vaults count something (usually their contents count a lot more than themselves though).

With RNG having a bad day you might find something like RoSpeed just to see it destroyed by lightning hound breath.

Thanks for your advice guys, but i'm sorry to say, Mai has passed on. After being ambushed by three orc uniques and their entourages, I used my last teleport charge, only to teleport in to the middle of a pack of werewolves. And after about 7 more differently-classed descendents of Mai passing on in various gruesome ways, I think i'll just stick to what I know: Half Trolls with big weapons.

EDIT: Also, is there a list somewhere of what level artifacts and other useful items start showing up? Especially stat potions. I'm asking cause i'm hanging out for Aeglos. That weapon is the epitome of cool.

Look under the spoiler tab at the top of the page, it lists the minimum dungeon level that artifacts show up. Of course they show up sooner if you're lucky, or in a vault

Look in the text files in the lib/edit directory of Angband. object.txt has the level & rarity of all base objects. artifact.txt shows the level & rarity of artifacts. There's a key at the top of each of those files telling you how to read them.
The spoilers under the spoiler tab at the top of the page were last updated for version 3.1.2.
