Yeah, my general modus operandi is to pick up Grond and the Crown, but not wear them, and then make my final character dump.
However, if I felt like playing past Morgoth for some reason, I might well wear the Crown, for the novelty value if nothing else. Freed from the constraint of wearing gear specifically for stat boosts, you could probably arrange a pretty impressive loadout.Comment

I'm at DL67 now, just took out the mouth of sauron which was a hell of a tough fight. After killing him and all his summons and also cleaning out what i suppose must have been a green dragon pit i'm thinking about squelching all ego weapons as i feel like i spend more time picking up and identifying weapons than i'm playing the game (got roughly 40 ego weapons), but i'm nervous that there's some kind of awesome ego weapon that hasn't dropped yet, or that better ego weapons will drop further down in the dungeon. Would it be safe to squelch them?
Edit: playing 3.2.0 btw, if that makes any difference.Comment

What I do is to tell the game to inscribe the best base weapon types with !k (meaning: dont kill) once they appear in the knowledge menu (accessed by pressing ~).
The 3 top ones are Blade of Chaos (sword), Scythe of Slithing (polearm) and Mace of Disruption (hafted). With that precaution, its safe to squelch ego weapons. Even something like an Executioner sword of Fury is not going to get into the damage range one of the big 3 can deal out if it has some useful ego like a brand or slay evil.Comment

Thanks for the advice about the inscription thing that i wasn't aware of
On level 72 now and man did the pace pick up. Got a superb level, with Gabriel, the messenger and a couple of other uniques, but much worse was the greater quylthulyoughs (sorry, it's not in me to remember how to write that correctly) including a master version that i think i had a bit of luck against.
A draconic one summoned Glaurung, and a rotting one summoned Khamul and Thuringwethil (not sure about the spelling there) at the same time. Speed potions and teleport scrolls came in very handy, but also this tactic i've started using where i dig myself into a wall close to the monsters and then pull them. Only one monster can attack me at a time this way (unless they can walk through walls, and if someone summons ethereal hounds or somthing like that, that's when i consider using my destruction scrolls)
Anyway, i'm playing very carefully as i'm starting to become very nervous (almost more than i can handle), the last level took me about 6 hours to complete, and one of the things i try to do is determine as best i can is where i take the most damage, which is sometimes difficult especially if there are lots of monsters attacking me. It seems though that nether and dark has gotten very dangerous so i've included those resistances in my gear.
Which leads me to what i was gonna ask; what should i look out for at this depth, what can kill me really quick and how can i protect myself. Is there any gear i should wear or any items i should carry that i didn't before? (I have most resistances in my gear except for Lite, Blindness (which had to go in exchange for something else) Sound, Nexus, and Hold Life, but i carry Evenstar around with me).Comment

One other question. I've found some "Heavily Cursed" items, like the Spear of Melkor, that seem like they might be useful. Can the *Remove Curse* spell do anything about these items, like improve them somehow, or remove the penalties, or does *Remove Curse* only allow you to take off the item if you've accidentally put it on?Comment

Looking at your dump, youre doing well. You wont need any defenders (they arent made for warriors). The only weapon to keep is Til-i-Arc, it will eventually outdamage Haradekket - once your stats are good enough. The rest are inferior.
You say you are fighting Qs...thats something I try to avoid doing with warriors. As a general rule, pick your fights. If it gives you any trouble, consider avoiding it. Teleport other is your best friend.
Good luck.Comment

hm, i guess you should try to kepp rblindness covered... if you get blinded you'll have to rely on staves of teleport which will give you a lovely little failure rate, to be exploited by the rng.
of course i don't know what the alternatives are, as your char dump isn't up to date (+i'm not exactly a veteran), but as far as i know blindness is one of the crucial resistances (besides basic four, poison, confusion).Comment

if i want to update my character dump, is the usual way to do it to overwrite the old one or make a new entry in the ladder?Comment

Updated dump here in case anyone wants to comment give advice etc.Comment

The latter, but there exists at least 1 cursed artfact worth keeping.

About the Qs (which i'm now going to start calling them), i did manage to take out a Master Q, a Greater Rotting Q and a Greater Draconic Q on the level i was talking about, but only with great difficulty, admittedly. You're probably right that i should stay away, but the fights are so darn exciting!
I've more careful now tho than when i first fought them as they're much harder than the regular Qs. The first ones suprised me with a few uniques, including Glaurung, which was my closest call yet. My rod of detection comes in very handy as it they don't take me by suprise and it often allows me to dig myself right next to it if the Q is right next to a wall.Comment

Just had a short look, and as i said i'm pretty new as well, but i guess you should really try to optimize your resistances a bit...
if i'm not mistaken at least colluin, evenstar and anarion only cover resistances that are already covered otherwise. never had colluin but its activation seems worth keeping it, and the healing activation of evenstar is pretty nice as well. still i'd consider changing either evenstar or anarion, probably anarion. sustains are nice but your important stats are way over the top anyway (at least 18/260 if i'm not mistaken), so you don't have to worry about them being drained a bit. and you're playing 3.2.0, right? so restore stat potions are even available in the shops, in case they get drained too much.
wielding celegorm instead will give you rblindness which is one of the essentials as far as i know.
actually, i just realized you don't even carry staves of teleportation...
if you get blinded scrolls won't help you anymore and you'll have no means of getting out! but even buying staves is not completely safe as, being a warrior, your fail rate with devices is pretty high... so really, try to get that blindness resistance, one way or the other.
hope i could help a bit... i'm sure there'll be people who can offer more helpful help thougComment

Evenstar gives me Hold Life which is handy, but i only put it on when i'm fighting xp draining monsters. I use Elessar otherwise.
As you say i use Shield of Anarion because of the sustains. I guess i could try to play without it for a while and see how that feels and get blindness resist.
Still, on the topic of blindness and teleportation; blindness doesn't really bother me much. Usually i just keep hitting away at where i last saw the monster, or if it's a tougher fight i quaff a cure critical wounds potion, which are in unlimited supply. The only problem i can see is when you absolutely, positively have to get away this turn and you're blinded. Of course that's also when it has to work, so there's a that.
Staffs though have they're own set of problems, i can fail at using them, which doesn't work very well with the get-the-hell-out-of-dodge issue, but also they are frequently destroyed or drained of charges (which seems to me also to heal the monster doing the draining, though i'm not sure about that) and they would only be useful in the above-mentioned situation where i'm blinded and have get away.
The only fail-safe thing to do tho would be to carry both scrolls and staffs, but then i'm starting to fill up my limited inventory again and going above the weight limit which reduces speed. So i don't know.
I'll be sure to tell you tho if i die while blinded only carrying scrolls of teleportation.Comment

good to know
still i think you might get these get-out-now-situations from time to time when fighting summoners. being surrounded by some balrog uniques and their escorts/vecna or maybe even the dear tarrasque can be pretty scary... anyway, i'm not sure who of the big guys can blind you so... good luck, maybe you can make itComment
