    Ranger play style

    Hi all,

I've been a regular if infrequent player over the years, but I've always played a Mage. I've noticed that currently at cLvl 3? I'm playing more like a weak warrior with utility spells. Relying on Anduril for kills and spells for escaping etc..

Just having got the ammo branding spell I realised how nice this could be so I thought I'd try and play a Ranger for a change.

The thing is I can't see how you would play when you use up consumables (arrows etc) so quickly. Playing test characters I seemed to go through 99 arrows in a couple of levels!

Do you simply recall back to town often and stock up? Do you save arrows for bigger fights and use a melee weapon 90% of the time?

    Any tips would be appreciated!

(and yes, I've read all threads about rangers already on here, but no-one specifically mentioned the arrow problem. )

At first I thought you said you were at clvl 3 and was wondering how the heck you'd found Anduril already.

Rangers do a lot of melee to augment their ranged combat, yeah. Big targets can be killed entirely with ranged, or softened up before melee starts, but for small targets it's simply not worth the bother and broken ammo to shoot them to death. Ranger melee is the worst of the hybrid classes but it's not bad.

Yea, there's no need to waste arrows unless you need to.
For a while your melee weapon does far more damage than your ranged attack anyway!

Of course, having a ranged, spammable attack (not limited by your SP) is quite nice even if its per-turn damage doesn't match what you can do in melee.
