    Please post your old savefiles

We want to create a test suite for old savefiles, to make sure that every new release can load savefiles from old releases without crashing or introducing bugs. So we need a variety of savefiles from 3.1.1 onwards. (The savefile format was rewritten for 3.1.1 so earlier savefiles cannot be converted.)

Please attach your savefiles to this thread, providing you know *exactly* which version they are from: 3.1.1, 3.1.2, 3.1.2v2 or 3.2.0. Savefiles from 3.2.0 are especially welcome, so we can make sure they all load in 3.3.0

Please don't attach any savefiles which have been used with nightly or development versions, only proper releases.

    Many thanks in advance.

Are savefiles with additional ego items OK (only in unused numbers, so no need to increase count of ego items)?

Do you still want one (3.2.0) if I've already tested that it loads in the most current build? It loads with a parser error, but seems to play fine from then on. At least one item in inventory claims it was "dropped by a monster lost to history" so that's probably what it had trouble parsing.

No thanks, just totally unadulterated published versions.

Nice to know that's working, but that shouldn't be the parser error.

Did you keep a copy of it before you loaded it into the current nightly? If you have a copy that hasn't been loaded since saving in 3.2.0, then yes please.

I should have an original copy of it, yes; I'll post it tonight. I believe it gives the parser error on every load even after it's been through the newest version a time or two.

Save files - "Wen-original", a 3.2.0 savefile that loads in the current repository build with a parser error, but plays okay after that.

"Wen-after-opened" - same file after it's been played and saved in the current build; it exhibits the same parser error on every load, but shows no other problems beyond that.

              The error message is:

Parse error in C:\Users\[...]\Wen.prf line 19 column 1: P: undefined directive
              Attached Files

That's a pref file issue, not a savefile issue - I imagine Wen.prf contains macros that the game no longer loads.

Here's a 3.1.2 save-file after some searching found in the Library/Preferences/Angband/Save folder in OSX.
(I wish Angband could have the same folder structure in OSX as in all the other OS's.)

In a multi-user system (which all OSes are now), you either have to have each user install the program for themselves (in which case each user can write to the lib/save directory), or you have to have a save directory that's located somewhere other than where the executable has, which is different for each user. You can't do an install for all users that saves to where the program is located, because the install requires admin permissions but saving the game shouldn't.

The canonical (encouraged by Apple) location for programs to save user-specific information is in /Users/YourUserName/Library, which is where OSX Angband savefiles are stored. So Angband's just following the recommended guidelines.

                    Does that make sense?

                      (Getting slightly off-topic here but)
Oh, I'm not saying that it doesn't make sense. I'm just so accustomed to when the Save-folder was in the Lib-folder, etc. Perhaps I was also unconsciously referring to when I was searching for pref-files and couldn't find them, until I found them inside the Angband application. As you may guess, I am rather new to OSX, and still learning.

Hup. We really need a few more savefiles from 3.2.0, if anyone has them.

All my files are compromised. I might play a little just to get a file (and to test if an issue was present then). I thought you would need savefiles with longer games behind them, does that matter?

No, it doesn't matter at all. Ideally I want a mix of really old savefiles (which were last played in 3.2.0) and brand new savefiles (created in 3.2.0).
