They mark the end of your trap detection range. If you detect traps the border of the space you now know all the traps on gets painted green.
It stops you from running through so that you can recast the spell for the new area.My Angband videos : http://www.youtube.com/view_play_lis...385E85F31166B2 -
That's actually v.nice, but how could I've figured this out myself? Its not very intuitive, and using * to look reveals nothing extra about such tiles.Comment

The "DTrap" indicator at the bottom of the screen turns yellow when you're standing on the border. Or at least it does in the nightlies; not sure about 3.2.0.
Also, if you have mapped out areas at the appropriate distance, then when you cast the spell in the first place you can see the border appear. This may only be relevant if you're playing in a larger screen than the default though.Comment

Really? You cast the spell Detect Traps, and DTrap immediately shows up at the bottom of the screen where all your other status/info stuff is. That didn't suggest a connection to you?
I'm not certain if you're being intentionally opaque to prod us into making things more explicit, or if you're actually having difficulty here.Comment

First I didnt know about those green tiles, which was explained that its the border of your casted Detected traps spell. Great! But there is no way of know that is what those green floor tiles is. Might I suggest a floor description for that?
Second; I did not know that DTrap means that you are inside an area that you have detected traps in.
Its obvious once you know it, but when you don't, how are you supposed to draw that conclusion?
Great, ive casted Detect Traps, and hey! it says so on the screen! but why doesnt it go away?
Thats what Ive been asking myself, and I failed to draw the conclusion.Comment

Conclusion comes when you step past those green tiles. First DTrap turns yellow when you are at the green tile, then it disappears.Comment

This thing with the green line is a very cool and useful thing, that I myself discovered today. Maybe it's a bit unintuitive, I mean difficult to understand to begin with. Since I played a rogue I thought that "DTrap" meant that I had learned the ability to lay traps. Maybe it would be more clear if it instead of "DTrap" was called "Trap Detection Zone" or "DTrap Zone" or something. That would take more room to print though, and I don't know if there would be room for it.Comment

I can understand the confusion given how detect monster works quite differently.
Perhaps a solution is to put a blurb in the spell description?

In addition I see the newest nightly also colors doors, traps, and walls, to indicate the border of this zone.
A blurb like
"Granite wall.
Currently at the end of detected trap zone"Comment

A floor tile blurb would be nice. It took me sometime myself to find out why those tiles are green.
It might also show if a blank tile is in your detection radius.
While we are here i would also like if seeing a monster cast create traps clears your detection status indicator. My Angband videos : http://www.youtube.com/view_play_lis...385E85F31166B2Comment
