My characters usually die due to greed or boredom.

I've learned to conquer boredom, or at least recognize and avoid it. Downside it that it now takes me months to play a successful character.

Greed is a more complex problem. I know that it's better to survive and live to loot another day, but all too often I "go for it". I know that the item I'm seeking (which is probably worthless anyhow) will reappear. But trying to get to the things that the RNG doesn't want me to have is great fun (for me).

If I don't take risks, then the game becomes boring. My last warrior got into an incredibly ill-advised fight with an AMHD (no speed, no poison resistance, no confusion protection; about all I had was hitpoints, melee damage, and stacks of ?Phase and !CCW) which I only just barely won; the RNG could have swatted me down at any time. But it was exciting!
