    a few new person questions

    hi... here are my questions...


    1) uniques... how many uniques are there... as in, like gollum, and wormtongue ?
    (asked that cuz i want to find and kill them all)


    2) if i am playing with "special" feeling, will the "lost" artifacts show on the list of artifacts i have come across, or will i just never know what i lost ?
    (asked cuz i'd like to know if i ever lose some forever, and what they were)


    I'd search for these answers but I keep getting little bits of spoiler information in random threads and ... yeah... i'd rather not until i finish the game once.

    There are 102 unique monsters.

    Artifacts you have lost should show up in the artifact knowledge menu reachable from the ~ menu.

    Spoilers are pretty much unavoidable on these forums, I'm afraid. Also, playing without access to spoilers will most likely greatly increase the amount of time it takes you to win. I'd honestly recommend playing either with spoilers or with cheating death for a bit, since otherwise you can invest a lot of time into a character only to lose them to something you didn't realize was dangerous.

      Well that was fast... just now on my way out the door.

      On the spoilers... I will maybe do that but I'll try a few more times I think first.

      Eventualy I was sailing the last time I played... got to around drolem levels (i think i was in the 2400 feet level I don't know)... and bam, dead by a stupid drolem.

      Saying that cuz I have a feeling you may be right... but really this time i get that far i'm gonna be sooooooo cautious, always keeping resist on me etc (playing paladin).... and never feel i can sail ahead (i figured the game was just gonna be easy at that point).... if a drolem can slam the heck outa me (and i think it was a titan or something confusing me almost to death another time) i'm sure there are a ton of other things that can too since i didn't even reach halfway (i... think)

        You should note that that the game suddenly gets a lot harder in the dL40-50 stage (that's 2000-2500ft).

            Oh, my mistake. I counted the number of lines with "UNIQUE" in them in monster.txt, but there's the S_UNIQUE spell, so I overcounted. You're right, there's 97 uniques, as this will attest:

            97

                I thought there were only 97 uniques, or are we talking about different versions? I have killed 94 uniques in V 3.2.0, and have not gotten to Vecna, Sauron, and the big M yet.

                Speaking of which, if I want to try and take out Vecna before the other two, how should I find him easily?

                  Shouldn't take much bumming around 97-98 until you find him. Especially if all the other uniques are gone. If you really want you can try to get a Greater Rotting Quylthulg to summon him, but this is not recommend because his entire escort will be awake.

                    It's not often I get to disagree with Derakon, but I would urge you to stick to your spoiler-avoidance for as long as you possibly can. Yes, you'll howl in anguish when you lose a loved character to some breath you didn't fully understand before it killed you, but I think your eventual success will be vastly more enjoyable.

                    The good thing about these forums is that you can ask specific questions and get answers which only spoil what you want spoiled. If you actually read spoilers, you'll come across loads of stuff you didn't know that you didn't know yet.
