I was just going to play a little tonight, but at 11:30 Excellent feeling at 4700'. Initial detect reveals the Palintir and I found Hammerhand about a dozen feet from the stairs. The vault I found was a big X, and I only cleared half of it. There were just too many nasty uniques in the sections I didn't tackle.
There was probably an artifact necklace in there, and there was a rod I hadn't seen yet, which would probably have been useful, maybe healing or speed. But I still got a huge benefit from what I did clear. I feel fortunate to have been able to get anything from the vault. Meaglin came through the center section of stone, and I was afraid I was going to have to completely give up on the attempt the way he kept coming back at me. Ironically, once I had one of the central hallways clear, I felt safer inside the vault than out. Other than Feagwath, nothing too nasty followed him out.
Here's my latest dump.
Other than getting enough Dex to get at least 5 blows a round with something (GoP idealy), what else does this character need? I'd love to be able to wear something other than =rPoison, but the 2 artifact armors that provide that leave too many other resistance holes.
If I stick with the Palintir and Hammerhand for light & headgear, is it safe to sell of The phial and the artifact helm? I can probably sell off the artifact shield, the crown of might, and the Katana of Gondolin if I stick with that strategy. Actually, I can probably make enough space selling off the non-artifacts to have time to experiment before making a final decision.
