    Warrior - what to carry

    I need to stop carrying around so much stuff that it makes me slow -1. Any advice on what to ditch?

    I'll take advice on clearing out the home too, but I've got several ideas of what to clear out from there.

    Just a quick FYI: you're not running the latest version. That's fine -- given gameplay changes people might prefer just about any version of Angband over any other -- but I wanted you to know that 3.2 is available now.

    From your inventory, you can ditch:
    * Rod of Curing
    * Staff of Dispel Evil (just waste this on the next troll pit you see)
    * Amulet of Wisdom (not really worth carrying as a swap, even though Turmil covers regen)

    That's not all that much really. Your main problem weightwise is your equipment. Particularly Wrath and the plate armor are both really heavy. But it's not like you have good swaps for either. You could consider ditching Turmil; it's really down to how likely you think you are to need its cold immunity. It's not that helpful compared to fire/acid immunity; cold attacks aren't all that common.

    From your home, you don't really need:
    * Scroll of Dispel Undead (these items are traps; you never want to get into LOS of large numbers of undead, and the damage is puny)
    * Gorlim. The combat bonuses are not worth the penalties.
    * Halberd of Westernesse

    Otherwise you're looking pretty solid to me. I usually carry a bit more phase door, and you don't seem to have any recall ability (I usually buy up to 5 scrolls in town), but everything else in inventory is reasonably justifiable.

      I forgot to check to see if the latest version is in the Ubuntu standard packages when I started a new character. Thanks for the heads up on dispell undead. I was thinking it was a banish type effect, not a damage effect.

      Also, I dropped some extra recall in the dungeon and hadn't restocked when I dumped the character. Although I could see where that would make it look like I'm tromping up and down the stairs up and back

        ... and for the love of God find some permenant speed. It's a wonder you're still alive. The problem isn't that your speed is (-1), the problem is that it isn't (+5), or even (+10).

          Back in the old days, you wouldn't expect to find any speed until the mid-3000s. He'll be fine so long as he's careful.

            We had speed +0 and we liked it!

              It isn't. It's sitting at mentors.debian.net, waiting for a sponsor to upload it. If anyone knows any Debian Developers looking to sponsor *band packages, please send them my way.

                I've found Bronze DSM and the phial since i posted, so those both help with weight. I had to put the gauntlets of free action back on, but that was a worthwhile trade to get rConf.

                Trust me, I'd love to find some.

                    I'd hold out for Leather Boots. The arch support on sandals is terrible .

                      I updated my dump. More perm speed from a lesser vault, but I got lucky to get Azriel teleported away from the vault (see the note on the dump). Should I try to get down to 3500' or even 4000' now?

                      I'm assuming the perm speed is more useful for avoiding double moves than the ~180HP from the ring of con +6.

                      It seems like I'm in pretty good shape as long as I stay away from uniques, and some of the major demons, drakes, & undead.

                        If you didn't need the speed (+5) to put you over speed (+10), then I'd say go with the the CON, in your current state, go with the speed. Don't lose that (wicked good) CON ring though, you'll be wearing it sooner or later.

                        I'd probably use that Shield of Preservation full time, and swap the other in for rBlind as needed. You have ESP so blindness just means that you can't read scrolls (for 1 turn).

                          That's a good idea about the shield. I forgot to switch shields after fighting something that threw nether bolts, and didn't really mind when a hydra blinded me.

                          Wearing the crown, sandals, and a katana, I feel like I've got some sort of samurai queen roaming the halls of Angband.

                            Still alive. See the notes on the latest dump to see what I'm thinking about gear.

                            Also, I'm at 4600'. Is that as good a place as any to be looking for endgame gear, or should I keep working deeper.

                            PS - Is it normal to be this deep and not be done w/ stat gain? I won w/ a priest back on version 2.8 or 2.9, and I seem to remember having most of my stats up over 18/50 before heading below 2000'.

                              It is normal now. It used to be that stat potions got much rarer as you dropped, so you would hang around at stat gain depth. That has been fixed in a couple of ways, so there is no longer any reason to hang around until max stat gain.
