YACD - noob mage needs help

Rediscovering Angband after being away for awhile. Enjoying the changes that have been made while away - really improve playability. I have an HE-Mage that hasn't died yet, but none-the-less feel like I'm not quite playing things right. Specifically, I'm wondering if I should be melee-ing more, or wearing different/heavier armor. Thoughts?

    Thanks much

I'd say you should drink that potion of Nimbleness, melee or no melee.

Thanks Timo. I noticed that as I was posting the character dump. I didn't realize the game had logic in that view to help calculate shortest-path to next attack-speed increase.

Is it common for mages to stick to cloth/leather until they find artifacts or ego-armors? I recently stumbled across my first orc pit, and I had serious doubts about my ability to clear it out, so I skipped it.

Young mages can't afford the weight of bigger armors, and ideally shouldn't be spending much time in melee anyway, so yeah, it's not uncommon for them to stick to the lightest stuff they can get (including simply no armor at all) until finding something that has beneficial special powers.
