Farmer Maggott is actually in the town to start with (a very rare find for me).

I go through the boring process if killing him

since when does a unique not drop anything. Especially Farmer Maggott?

Some uniques have no drop. Some uniques drop only sometimes. Better get used to it.

(I believe Maggot drops "up to 1 good item", but I'm too lazy to find out.)

Farmer Maggot drops an item 90% of the time and has a good drop.

PS: I think you should be able to set it at 10%, 25%, 50%, 60%, 75%, 90% in the text files, instead of just 60% or 90%. Setting drops at 10% or 25% for monsters in big groups would help with the TMJ problem.

That level of customisability is really hard to balance properly. Much better would be logic such that group drops get generated with the group, which is something I plan to do at some point.
