      You're right that it can put you in a bad situation. I think in V you always get to go first after going down the stairs (this is a change designed to remove unavoidable deaths) so I'm pretty sure it wouldn't be instant death no matter where you end up. But especially without connected stairs you may have nowhere to escape to, so I agree it's very dangerous.

      I didn't want to kick the hornet's nest again with the difficulty comment, but I couldn't resist making the joke.

        There's a difference between "player gets the first move" and "stairs take you somewhere safe". Typically the latter means that you enter the level with no monsters in LOS.

          Oh I agree completely. It's just not "instant death" (to quote Timo). When I say instant death I mean death without any actions. (Thich used to happen periodically. I think at least one person was annoyed that we have moved toward making this impossible.)
