There's also, to my mind, a big difference between the general "drolems breathe poison, surprise surprise" and "if you've killed 50 cats, FLEE from the cat lord". The one is very much within the normal scope and principles of the game; the other isn't. It's much more of a trick.

Now, OK, easter eggs are cool in a game...but easter eggs, by definition, do NOT dramatically impact game play, so the kinds of things Derakon mentioned, don't qualify as easter eggs. Also: is there ANY case where something like "write Elbereth in the sand" is ever hinted? If not, it's not a veteran's move to do this; it's a pure, spoiler-only *trick*, and nothing more, because it can't be learned through play.

Sokoban. A puzzle place (the aim of the puzzle being obvious when you see it) and the reward is placed on somewhere where there is a permanent engraved Elbereth. And since you have to fight a room full of monsters where that reward is placed, people wonder why the reward wasn't picked up, or why they don't get attacked when standing on the already made elbereth square.

Concerning the cat lord, you often get a message among the lines of an angry roar coming from below when you kill a cat. The message only appears once, so you don't get spammed by it when killing cats. Maybe the mad ministrel/ fortune cookies have a say on this, but i'm not sure.

Curiosity and experimentation are *heavily* recommended in nethack and adom. There's just not too much to experiment on in Angband, it's straightforward.
