    Borgs?

    I've just recently started playing this again and I was just wondering if there are any borgs for modern versions of this game, and if not what was the last stable version that had a borg and where can I find it? I always found Borgs amusing and would like to try to find one again if possible.

    I believe 3.0.9b (on rephial.org) has a borg. I used it as my screensaver for a while, but it spent a good chunk of its time running around aimlessly while "waiting to sell."

        Thanks!

        Ok, thanks for the help, I got it all set up now.

        I gotta say, this Borg is EXTREMELY conservative. He's a Paladin with 17 HP but he keeps running from kobolds and won't even venture out of the first room of the dungeon.

        I wonder how he'll deal with the ever-cheap floating eyes. I can't count the number of times I have a decent character going, walk around a corner, and there's a floating eye, game over =(.

          You can avoid floating eyes just fine with two things:

          1) Get a radius-2 light source. In modern Vanilla, that just means ensuring your light source remains reasonably fully-fueled.
          2) Ensure your movement options are set so you don't cut corners when running. This doesn't apply in modern Vanilla; the option appears to have been removed. I'm curious what the default behavior is now.

            When that option was removed, the behavior was defaulted to not cutting corners when running.
            Zaiband: end the "I shouldn't have survived that" experience. V3.0.6 fork on Hg.
            Zaiband 3.0.10 ETA Mar. 7 2011 (Yes, schedule slipped. Latest testing indicates not enough assert() calls to allow release.)
            Z.C++: pre-alpha C/C++ compiler system (usable preprocessor). Also on Hg. Z.C++ 0.0.10 ETA December 31 2011

              +8 AC is enough to prevent death by floating eyes in old versions, and now in modern to-be-released version paralyzis is not cumulative, so if you make saving throw and paralyzer doesn't hit you you get out. It still can kill you, but it isn't certain death.

                I love borgs simply because the first few levels of the game are so boring. I tend to run them, or used to before I upgraded Angband, until I got somewhere between level 5-10.

                I wish there was some option you could use that started you effectively after your first dive.

                  You could just save/share your save files from level 5-10 characters.

                  What? Don't act like you've never saved a file before.

                    Wouldn't that ruin ancestor memory and whatnot?
