    "General tips", not "beginner tips". For starting characters, an unenchanted long bow is fine - once you have the gold to upgrade, then it's a good investment.

    edit: and I wouldn't say I play 'recklessly', just definitely a lot faster than what you had suggested...

      True, general - but general tips for a new player getting to grips with the game. I actually think enchanting a bow like that is wasteful if you dive so - Its not uncommon to find (or buy) an ego bow with bonuses above ten by 1000 ft - 1500ft.

      Much more useful for a diver to spread spare enchant money over your armour, although probably less important for mages.
      You sold a Broken Sword (1d2) (-2,-4) {average} (j) for 1 gold.
      The shopkeeper howls in agony!
      You say "Dude, the clue is in the name...".
