Can't get Angband to work

I've tried both the vanilla version and a couple of variants but none works on my computer for some odd reason. Either angband never goes up and just runs in the background, or I only get a black screen with a yellow box and nothing else. Any ideas on how to fix this?

If that had been vista, or 7; that would have been the problem.

If you are running an older (pre-3.1) version of angband, or any number of variants, there's a well known bug in getting font resources. It requires rebooting on XP. (Don't know about Win7, since i never played an earlier version of angband on Win7)
