    That damned smith!

    vanilla 3.0.6

Eddie the Ranger is now CL33. His house is full of relatively useless but valuable items such as several differnt types of weapons of Westernesse and (Defender). The reason He's collected all these here is because that damned Half-Troll Ithyl-Mak the Beastly who has occupied the Weapon Smiths shop for the entire game with a max bank of 5000. Eddie just can't bring himself to sell something that he could easily get 15000 for with another merchant, for a measly 5000gp.

Eddie considered murder, but despite the lack of local constabulatory, there just doesn't seem to be any way he can get away with it.

He's sold all the blunt and blessed weapons to the temple, who always offer a fair price for such items.

Is there any way Eddie can "encourage" the smith to pack up his shop and go find another venue? Maybe stop giving him any business at all for a little while?

Get him rich, ie buy his stock out. A new merchant MIGHT come, or he might just get another stock.

That has never worked to me IIRC. I think it is totally random chance.

Anyways, by the time one has enough money to buy out a store, they don't care about money.
And... i just seem to be lucky. my sawn maxes were : 27k and 30k....

According to the 3.1.2 source, once every 1000 normal-speed turns (which the comments claim is a "day", but I don't buy it), there is a 1 in 25 chance of a random store getting a new owner. Likewise, every time you buy out a store, there is a 1 in 25 chance that a new shopkeeper will show up.

I hate the shopping game. hate hate hate. As such I set everything except for the magic shop and the temple at 15k. Those get 20k. This is a random component of the game that I in no way care for.

Isn't a day more...? i happen to wait some time on DL 1 to let the shopkeepers restock, and it takes more than 1k turns for night to fall...

That's another problem I have. We need to get rid of the no restock while you're in town. I hate having to plan my trips back on turn count.

Yes, one day/night cycle is IIRC something like 20k normal-speed turns. This code executes along with the normal store refresh code, which is 1k turns, but the comments talk about days. Hence my skepticism.

You are making the assumption that those weapons are actually "worth" the 30,000GP that another shop-keeper might give you. In themselves if you can't use them, they are worth nothing.
Sure, keep them around for a while and keep hoping. But if something valuable shows up in the black market or the armory, or you really need to buy out the alchemist shop, go ahead and sell your junk for what the market will bear.
