A question about Angband and Vista.

Namely, one, are there any major issues with Angband that I should be aware of?

Two, does Angband force vista out of windows Aero? For whatever reason, when my installation is forced out of Aero, the screen goes black and it, well, never comes back. So anything that forces windows out of Aero is inevitably a showstopper.

    Thanks in advance.

Angband works fine with Vista. Now for my mostly uninformed solution. A quick google search provided this. Disabling Aero.
I am entirely unaware of the consequences of disabling Aero. You may want to look into that first.

Disabling Aero just makes things look less pretty. It does not have any functional consequences that I am aware of (it's like switch to the Windows 98 look in XP, only a cosmetic change).

I find a lot of older applications (esp. dvd playing software other than WMP) disable aero before running, so if that is a showstopper you shouldn't use it in the short term and try to resolve the issue in the long run.

You might try changing resolutions/other display settings and see if that affects your instance's ability to survive disabling aero. Also, I would search online to see if there are newer drivers for your video card, that might fix your problem.

Can't speak to Vista as I no longer am inflicted by it...but under Win7, it runs fine, either windowed or full-screen. Doesn't even need special handling; just double-click angband.exe and it's running.

I don't know if it will disable Aero in Vista; it shouldn't. But I agree with the others; this shouldn't be happening. Aero tends to be a big, bloated resource waster, so if you can manage to kill it, I'd go for that too.

Yep, it seems to work fine. Thanks everyone.

And for the black screen issue, if there's ever anything I need to use that forces into a black screen, I'll look into those solutions, but as of now it's not been a major issue.
